Targeted Lawn Pest Control in Greater New Orleans and the Northshore

Lawn-damaging insects are one of the biggest threats to idyllic lawns and gardens in South Louisiana. Our warm, subtropical climate is a haven for many types of pests that feed on turfgrass, breaking down your lush, green lawn into patches of brown, yellow, dry, or dead grass. Whether you have bermudagrass, St. Augustine grass, zoysia grass, or another popular type of turf, your lawn is susceptible to infestations. Once these creatures set up shop, they can wreak havoc, destroying the lush spaces that you and your family or community should be enjoying all year round.

At Lobb-Alexis, we've been fighting back against South Louisiana's most common pests for over 40 years and counting. Our trained lawn technicians can identify mole crickets, chinch bugs, grub worms, and more, developing a targeted solution to return your lawn to its former glory. Get the safest and most comprehensive insect control in NOLA when you put your trust in Lobb-Alexis.

How Do I Identify My Lawn Pests?

The underlying cause of lawn problems can be tricky to identify to the untrained eye. However, correctly pinpointing an insect infestation is the key to properly addressing it. The experts at Lobb-Alexis are thoroughly trained to identify the most common underground and surface insects that damage lawns and commercial turfs in South Louisiana, including:

  • Chinch Bugs: These tiny bugs love various types of turfgrass, and are particularly destructive to St. Augustine grass. Chinch bug infestations are most common during hot, dry weather when their damage can easily be mistaken for drought stress. If scattered patches of grass look yellow, dry, or dead and don't respond to watering, you may have an infestation.
  • Grub Worms: Sometimes called white grubs, these beetle larvae live in the soil and feed on grass roots. Their activity can cause patches of your lawn to turn brown and die. You can identify a white grub infestation by pulling back patches of brown grass and looking for the grubs themselves.
  • Mites: Spider mites are the most common threat to a variety of landscaping plants, including many trees and shrubs in the Greater New Orleans and Northshore area. They suck sap from the leaves, causing them to develop stippling (small yellow or white dots), bronzing, or yellowing.
  • Mole Crickets: These burrowing insects can damage your lawn by tunneling underneath the surface and feeding on grass roots. You might see raised, winding tunnels just beneath the surface of your lawn. Call us if your lawn feels spongy, you see tunnels or brown patches, or you notice small mounds of soil near these areas. We offer a specialized application specifically for Mole Crickets.

What are chinch bugs?

Chinch bugs are small insects that feed on the sap of turfgrass, particularly warm-season grasses like St. Augustine grass. These tiny black bugs have white markings on their wings and yellow-orange legs. They begin destroying grass in the hottest months, and you are likely to see the brown patches they leave behind in the areas of your lawn that receive the most sun and least moisture. If you notice large, irregular patches of dead or brown grass that spread and merge over time, call Lobb-Alexis for a professional evaluation.

What do grub worms turn into?

Grub worms are the larval forms of beetles. The most widespread species of grub worm in our area is the June beetle, though we also see masked chafers and, less commonly, Japanese beetles. If you're having trouble controlling white grubs in your lawn, contact your local pest control professionals at Lobb-Alexis for proper identification and the most effective treatment options!

What is the most destructive insect pest in Louisiana lawns?

Chinch bugs are often regarded as the most damaging and common yard pest in South Louisiana. That said, lawns in our area can fall victim to a variety of damaging insects, including mole crickets, grub worms, sod webworms, fire ants, armyworms, and more.
