Mechanical Aeration for Greater New Orleans and Northshore Lawns

Mechanical Aeration for Greater New Orleans and Northshore Lawns

South Louisiana soil compacts fast. Heavy rain, foot traffic, and our clay-heavy ground squeeze the air out of the root zone until water, oxygen, and nutrients can no longer reach the grass. The lawn thins out, puddles linger after storms, and fertilizer stops performing the way it should.

Mechanical aeration reverses that damage. Our core aeration equipment pulls small plugs of soil from the lawn, reopening channels so roots can breathe, drink, and grow deeper. Every aeration visit starts with a complimentary evaluation of your turf and soil. Contact our team to schedule yours.

When Should You Aerate Your Lawn in South Louisiana?

When Should You Aerate Your Lawn in South Louisiana?

Timing depends on your grass. Most Southeast Louisiana lawns grow warm-season turf like St. Augustine or centipede grass, and both respond best to aeration during active growth, not while dormant.

Our team times aeration around your turf and your soil:

  • St. Augustine grass: Late spring through early summer, once the lawn is fully green and growing vigorously. St. Augustine spreads by stolons, so it recovers quickly from core aeration in this window.
  • Centipede grass: Late spring to mid-summer. Centipede grows more slowly, so we avoid aerating during drought stress or right before a cold snap.
  • Compacted or high-traffic lawns: Once per year at minimum. Properties with heavy clay soil, pooling water, or constant foot traffic often benefit from aeration every growing season.
  • After construction or heavy equipment: As soon as the lawn shows pooling, thinning, or rock-hard soil, regardless of the calendar.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is mechanical aeration?

Mechanical, or core, aeration uses a machine to pull small plugs of soil from the lawn. The holes relieve compaction so air, water, and nutrients can reach the roots again.

How often should I aerate my lawn in Southeast Louisiana?

Once per year for most lawns. Heavy clay soil, frequent pooling after rain, or heavy foot traffic can justify aerating every growing season.

When is the best time to aerate St. Augustine grass?

Late spring through early summer, while the grass is actively growing. St. Augustine spreads by stolons and fills back in quickly during this window.

Will aeration damage my lawn or sprinkler system?

No. The soil plugs left on the surface break down within one to two weeks and return nutrients to the soil. We ask you to mark irrigation heads and invisible fence lines before the visit so our equipment stays clear of them.

Do you offer mechanical aeration on the North Shore?

Yes. We aerate lawns across Greater New Orleans and the North Shore, including Mandeville, Covington, and Slidell, as well as Metairie and Kenner.
