Lawn Aeration in New Orleans, LA | Lobb-Alexis - aer-2-1

Expert Lawn Aeration for Greater New Orleans and Northshore Properties

Sometimes, no matter how well you water and mow your lawn, you're still left with thin, sparse grass that is vulnerable to the South Louisiana heat. If this sounds familiar, the problem could be soil compaction and thatch buildup. When soil is pressed too tightly or too much organic matter accumulates between the grass and the soil's surface, the roots can't get the nutrients and moisture they need. Thankfully, Lobb-Alexis has the ideal lawn aeration tools and knowledge to revitalize your property.

Also known as core aeration, lawn aeration involves removing small plugs or cores of soil and thatch, which opens channels in your grass so air and water can reach the roots. Aeration boosts grass growth for a healthy lawn that you can enjoy year-round! If you're ready to unlock your lawn's full potential, contact Lobb-Alexis today for a free lawn evaluation!

Explore the Benefits of Lawn Aeration Services

Annual aeration is a powerful way to recharge your lawn and promote its overall health. Over the course of a season, weather, mowing, foot traffic, and other factors can cause the soil to compress and layers of organic matter to accumulate, suffocating the grass. Freeing the roots with aeration comes with a host of benefits, including:

  • Improved airflow to boost oxygen intake, circulation, and beneficial microbial activity
  • Enhanced water infiltration to keep grass roots balanced and moisturized
  • Increased nutrient availability to improve overall lawn health and vigor
  • Boosted fertilizer uptake to enhance the effectiveness of your regular lawn care program
  • Reduced thatch buildup to prevent thick mats from suffocating your grass
  • Stronger root growth for a more resilient lawn that can better withstand drought, heat stress, and disease
  • Improved drainage to reduce the risk of fungal diseases
  • Thicker, more cushioned turfgrass for you to enjoy all season long

What to Expect From Professional Lawn Aeration

Know Before You Grow!

Your technician will use a spike aerator machine to remove small plugs of soil from your lawn. After aeration, your lawn will be dotted with these core plugs, which may look unsightly at first. Don't worry! They'll break down naturally over time and contribute to healthier soil. In 1-2 weeks, you should notice new white roots filling the holes, as well as reduced water runoff-all signs that your grass is getting the water, oxygen, and nutrients it needs. Our senior-level applicator will arrive around this time to check on progress and make sure that everything is going as planned. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the process, you can always call our team!

What does aerating your lawn do?

Aerating your lawn reduces soil compaction and allows air, water, and nutrients to reach the grass's roots more effectively. It contributes to creating a healthier lawn environment that is less hospitable to lawn pests, more resilient to changing weather conditions, and overall more beautiful.

When should you aerate your lawn?

The timing for aeration depends on the type of grass you have. That said, we generally recommend aerating in late spring or very early summer for the warm-season grasses we often see here in South Louisiana. This ensures the grass is actively growing and can heal after aeration before the summer heat sets in.

How often should you aerate your lawn?

Generally, aeration is recommended every 1-2 years for residential lawns in South Louisiana. Clay soils are prone to compaction, and warm-season grasses benefit from improved air circulation throughout the growing season.

Lawns with heavy traffic, persistent thatch problems, or signs of compaction (water pooling, shallow roots) may be candidates for yearly aeration. Healthy lawns with minimal compaction might be fine with aeration every other year. Certain commercial turfs, like sports fields, often require aeration as frequently as every 2-3 weeks.

Do you provide liquid aeration for lawns?

Yes. We may include liquid aeration as part of our regular lawn care program. This treatment involves applying a liquid solution mixed with water to your lawn to promote positive effects on soil structure. It's typically best for preventative maintenance on healthy lawns with minimal compaction. For severely compacted soil, core aeration is likely more beneficial.
